The Blessing

The tradition of blessing boats is steeped in history, tracing back to Jesus’ time with fishermen and the miraculous hauls they brought in. This ritual carries a spiritual weight, reinforced by figures like St. Peter and the Virgin of Carmel, who are believed to watch over sailors.

Every Easter Sunday we have our very own Blessing of the Fleet take place right here in Ulladulla Harbour. Lead by local clergy from St Mary’s Star of the Sea Parish in Milton.

It starts first thing in the morning with the procession of St Peter followed by an Easter Sunday Mass on the Wharf then flows into the traditional Blessing of the Fleet with Father Michael visiting each vessel by boat to perform the blessing. It truly is a wonderful thing to witness.

Make sure you check out event timetables (when they are published) for exact times for the Blessing and we will see you there.
